International hip-hop star French Montana is heading back to South Africa this December, with Cape Town set to host the first night of the inaugural AFROTRAX live event series.
The Moroccan-American rapper will headline the Cape Town edition at The Ostrich on Friday, December 4, 2026, before travelling to Johannesburg for a second show at The Canvas on December 5. The Cape Town event is scheduled to run from 2pm until midnight.
But this is more than a French Montana concert. Organisers are positioning AFROTRAX as a new platform bringing together African music, fashion, culture and international entertainment, with the Cape Town event combining live performances with DJs, food, lifestyle activations and premium hospitality experiences.
French Montana Leads a Major Cape Town Lineup
The Cape Town lineup has now expanded beyond the international headliner, with some of South Africa’s biggest hip-hop names confirmed for the event.
French Montana will be joined by Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, YoungstaCPT, 25K, Jairic, Rarri, Kane and Bassik at The Ostrich.
For Cape Town specifically, the inclusion of YoungstaCPT gives the event an important local connection. The rapper has spent years building a distinct identity around Cape Town, its culture and its communities, making his appearance alongside a global artist such as French Montana particularly significant for the city’s hip-hop audience.
The lineup also brings together different generations and styles within South African rap. Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C represent established national stars, while YoungstaCPT brings Cape Town’s own rap identity to an event built around an international headliner.
French Montana’s Global Catalogue
French Montana arrives in South Africa with a catalogue that has travelled far beyond the American hip-hop market.
The rapper, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, is best known for global hits including “Unforgettable,” “No Stylist,” “Pop That” and “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’.” His career has also included collaborations with major artists such as Drake, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Cardi B, Swae Lee and Chris Brown.
“Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, became one of the defining commercial records of his career and helped cement French Montana’s position as one of the most recognizable names in international hip-hop.
His South African return therefore gives local fans an opportunity to see an artist whose music has remained deeply connected to global rap culture for more than a decade.
AFROTRAX Wants to Build Something Bigger
The French Montana announcement is also the launch of a new entertainment brand.
AFROTRAX, in partnership with PLAYY. Music, describes itself as a platform designed to connect African creative communities with major international artists. The organisers say the project will extend beyond conventional concerts to incorporate music, fashion, culture, food, lifestyle and hospitality.
“Launching the brand with French Montana is a significant milestone,” organisers said, describing the event as the beginning of a larger vision for AFROTRAX.
That approach could make the Cape Town show particularly interesting for the city’s increasingly diverse live entertainment scene.
Rather than presenting French Montana as an isolated international booking, AFROTRAX is placing him in a lineup alongside major South African artists and local cultural experiences.
Cape Town Gets the Outdoor Festival Experience
The choice of The Ostrich also gives the Cape Town event a different character from the Johannesburg edition.
The Cape Town show will take place outdoors, with the event running through the afternoon and into midnight. Organisers are promoting it as a summer festival experience, making use of the venue’s setting to create something larger than a traditional indoor concert.
The Johannesburg edition follows the next day at The Canvas, giving French Montana two consecutive South African performances.
While both events will feature the international headliner, each city is being positioned around its own atmosphere. Cape Town’s event is expected to lean into the city’s outdoor summer culture, while Johannesburg’s edition is being framed around a more urban festival environment.
A Major Date for Cape Town Hip-Hop
The December 4 show is shaping up as one of the more notable international hip-hop events on Cape Town’s 2026 calendar.
French Montana brings the global name recognition, while Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, YoungstaCPT and the rest of the lineup give the event a strong South African identity.
That combination could be one of AFROTRAX’s biggest strengths. Instead of separating international and local hip-hop, the festival is putting both on the same stage.
For Cape Town’s rap community, December 4 will therefore be more than a chance to hear “Unforgettable” live. It will bring one of global hip-hop’s recognizable figures together with some of the artists who have shaped the contemporary South African scene.
With additional programming and hospitality details expected to follow, attention will now turn toward how AFROTRAX develops its debut event and whether it can establish itself as a recurring fixture on South Africa’s live hip-hop calendar.
For now, one thing is clear: French Montana is coming to Cape Town, and he’s bringing a serious South African rap lineup with him.
